ABOUT DELIA

I’ve been providing strategic creative services for established and entrepreneurial brands, businesses, and nonprofits since 1998. Merging an expertise in graphic design, problem solving and marketing with a long-term sustainable approach, I create impactful visual communications that inspire people to engage.

Born and raised in Queens, New York, I had an innate interest in art and began drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil. At the age of thirteen, myself and four other NYC students won an art contest and were awarded a trip to Japan accompanied by our art teachers as delegates of the Asia Society to promote goodwill through art. This incredible experience in using art as a communication tool, set the tone for my career to follow.

In 1992, I earned a BFA in Communication Design from Pratt Institute and soon after graduating, became a senior designer at News Communications – a company that owned 14 newspaper publications at the time. A few years later, I joined Jobson Publishing as an Art Director. During this time, I was designing logos and creating promotional materials for clients on nights and weekends, building a small business which later became Bonfilio Design.

Launched in 1998 and operating from a small studio in the heart of NYC’s Union Square district, BD became known for designing the NYC 2000 logo for the City of New York, which branded the Millennium Celebrations that occurred throughout the year – including the famed New Year’s Celebration in Times Square. In 2002 we moved the office to midtown where I managed a team of creatives, photographers, developers, and interns as we expanded our services to include packaging and digital design, drawing in a variety of clients including Dan Klores Communication, NY Road Runners, Jose Cuervo, Diageo, Unilever, PepsiCo, and Godiva Chocolatier.

After successfully running a brick and mortar business in NYC for 14 years, I shifted to a remote business in 2011 and moved to California. There I co-founded The Ted Spagna Project – a venture designed to awaken the work of my late godfather – the photographer who pioneered sleep portraiture in the early seventies. In 2013, I produced, co-edited, and designed “Sleep” by Ted Spagna (published by Rizzoli New York). This coffee table book of Spagna’s human sleep portraits includes editorial contributions from the renowned Mary Ellen Mark and was favorably reviewed by notable publications like The New York Times, Fast Company’s Co.Design, and Vogue. PDN (Photo District News) named “Sleep” as one of Best Photography Books of 2013.

Working remotely allowed me to work with clients on both coasts including Channel Islands Surfboards, the Santa Barbara Sea Glass & Ocean Arts Festival, and the Big East Conference in New York. In 2013, my life-long love affair with animals went to another level when I became vegan which led me to the decision of becoming a cruelty-free company. Since then, I’ve worked with organizations that have a similar ethos including the Naturewatch Foundation, Vegan Linked, Greener By Default, Better Food Foundation, Farm Forward, and the Jewish Center for Food Ethics.

After spending nine years in California and three years in North Carolina, I returned to New York in 2024 where I continue to work remotely for clients across the country. I love what I do! As a zealous advocate for women, animals, and the environment, my mission is to design with purpose – offering my expertise and partnering with like-minded entrepreneurs, ventures and organizations that strive to affect positive change in these areas.

Since childhood, Delia has been passionate about two things: art and animals. The evolution and culmination of these passions have led Bonfilio Design to become a cruelty-free company.
